The present study was undertaken to analyze the types and characteristics of the subjective identity of social workers. The study subjects were 26 social workers serving in social welfare agencies in the Gyungbook province, Korea and Q methodology analysis was employed for a quantitative measurement of subjective data. We categorized the identity of social workers into 5 different types. First, they are satisfied with the current trend of social welfare but devoid of an willingness to improve it. Second, they are less willing to have expertise in their working and are reluctant to accept changes such as changes organization system or changes in tax rates. Third, they accept the current status of social welfare service but less willing to change and improve the status considerably. Fourth, they put much emphasis on clients problems and work more for them compared to working for their social welfare agency itself. But they are less willing to have expertise to give social welfare service. Fifth, they are experts to try to expand the social welfare service as well as to correct obscure welfare system. Moreover they think that the current social welfare service do not meet the needs of clients fully. Accordingly, we may utilize the data of the present study 1) for analyzing the subjective identity of social workers, 2) for making adequate continuing education programs for them including specific curriculum for each type of subjective identity.
